Frequently Asked Questions

What are the minimum requirements for university admission?

The minimum requirement for university degree programs is a C+ (plus) in KCSE. For diploma courses, the minimum requirement is a C- (minus). However, competitive programs may require higher grades and specific cluster points.

What are cluster points and how are they calculated?

Cluster points are calculated based on the performance in specific subjects relevant to a program. Each program has its own cluster subjects. The points are calculated by adding the grades of these specific subjects according to the program requirements.

How many program choices am I allowed to select?

KUCCPS allows you to select up to 6 program choices: 4 degree programs and 2 diploma programs. Make sure to arrange them in order of preference as this affects placement.

Can I apply for private sponsorship through KUCCPS?

Yes. KUCCPS processes applications for both government-sponsored and self-sponsored programs. You can indicate your preference during the application process.

What if I sat for my KCSE several years ago?

KUCCPS accepts applications from candidates who sat for KCSE in previous years. You will use your KCSE Index Number from when you took the examination, regardless of the year.

When are the revision periods scheduled?

KUCCPS typically schedules two revision periods: the first revision after initial applications and the second revision after initial placements. Exact dates are announced on the KUCCPS website and through public notices annually.

Can I change my course selections after submission?

No. Once you submit your application, you cannot make changes during the current application cycle. You must wait for the next revision window to make any adjustments to your selections.

What happens if I don't qualify for any of my chosen programs?

If you don't qualify for any of your chosen programs, KUCCPS may consider you for alternative programs based on your performance and available vacancies. You can also participate in the second revision if you're not satisfied with your placement.

How do I check my application status?

You can check your application status by logging into your KUCCPS student portal using your KCSE index number and password. The portal displays all information regarding your application and placement status.

How will I know if I've been placed in a program?

After placement, KUCCPS sends placement results to all applicants through their student portal. You can check your placement by logging into your KUCCPS account. Results are also sent to respective institutions and published in newspapers.

Can I transfer from one university to another after placement?

Inter-university transfers are always opened after all revisions are made and placements done. Once placed, you need to make a new transfer application request as long as you meet the cut off points and minimum subject requirements.

What if I forgot my KUCCPS portal password?

If you've forgotten your password, Use Your Birth Certificate No. OR KCPE Index No (as used in KCSE Exam Registration) as your Initial Password.
