About HELB Loans

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) provides financial support to Kenyan students pursuing higher education. Whether you're a first-time applicant or seeking subsequent funding, this portal will guide you through the application process.

Ensure you meet all requirements and prepare the necessary documentation to increase your chances of a successful application.

Requirements for First-Time Applicants

Personal Information

  • KCSE Index Number
  • KCPE Index Number
  • Birth Certificate Number
  • Student's National ID photocopy
  • One passport-sized color photograph
  • Email address registered with your ID
  • Phone number registered with your ID

Guardian/Parent Information

  • Parents' ID copies
  • Death certificate (if one parent is deceased)
  • Guardian's ID (if orphaned)
  • KRA PIN certificate for parent(s), if applicable

Academic Information

  • Admission letter from your institution
  • Current fee structure
  • Academic transcripts (if applicable)

Financial Information

  • KRA PIN certificate copy for the student
  • Banker's card from approved banks (Equity, Coop, KCB, or ABSA only)
  • Two guarantors' ID copies (parents can act as guarantors)

Important Notice

SACCO accounts are not accepted for HELB loan disbursements. Please ensure you have an account with one of the approved banks: Equity, Cooperative Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), or ABSA Bank.

Second & Subsequent Applications

If you were awarded a scholarship and/or loan in the previous academic year, you can apply for subsequent funding through one of these convenient methods:
